While every other set these days get a chase piece, the elusive “Chase” sticker was not always so common. In the early days of Funko rarer pieces were often called “chase” pieces by collectors, but it would take 9 years before Funko would use that title officially. With the announcement of the Star Wars Wacky Wobblers in April 2007, the first chase pieces were announced too. Collectors wouldn’t get their first views of them until Funko Funday that summer where some were given out to the crowd. The first wave on Star Wars Wacky Wobblers would each come with 1-in-36 chase piece. While current Chases pieces are Painted a different color, Metallic, Glow-in-the-dark, or even a complete new mold, these first chase pieces were simply the normal Wacky Wobblers standing on a Chromed Color base instead of the normal painted Black base.

Big Boy Wacky WobblerIn 1998 T-Shirt designer Mike Becker created Funko to offer the world nostalgia based bobble heads. The first item to arrive from China was a batch of 1,000 Big Boy Bobbleheads. This first production run are individually numbered on a small piece of paper at the bottom of the display window in the box. This first batch was to fulfill Mike’s wish to own for himself, since the vintage ceramic Big Boy bobbleheads were going for too much money on eBay. The next larger batch of bobbleheads went to the Big Boy restaurants’ gift shops. Funko would then decide on a name for their new line, calling them Wacky Wobblers. Additional Big Boys would come in with the lines new name on the boxes. Big Boy Wacky Wobblers can be found with Red, White or Silver Bases. There is even a special 50th Anniversary edition for the Burbank Big Boy location, this is a Silver Base wobbler with a special sticker on the box. Funko has reverted back to their origins with the POP! Ad Icons line, including Big Boy himself.

Ever wonder what the most expensive San Diego Comic Con exclusive for each year is? Wonder no more, we have gathered a list of the most valuable items from each year. I did not include any Freddy Funko items in this list. He will have his own list soon.

2003

El Diablo

Funko’s first time to the con, and they only brought one item with them that year. A very stylish El Diablo wacky wobbler in a Purple Suit. Limited to 666 pieces.

2004

Funko’s Spastik Plastik line was the rage in their grocery theme booth in 2004. But instead of octopi on the menu, the most valuable item from the year is a Glow in the Dark version of Juan.

2005

Carlos

Another Spastik Plastik tops the list in ’05. This time it is Carlos sporting his Comic Con exclusive black Suit. The version with a Visor is the more desirable.

2006

Huckleberry Hound

The first non-original creation from Funko and the first of 3 times the Huckleberry Hound appears in our list makes him the King of SDCC. In 2006 it was a Black and White Wacky Wobbler that topped the list.

2007

The Banana Splits

The Banana Splits mark the only appearance of a multipack on list. These guys are ready to rock in bright neon colors.

2008

Sleestak Pez Dispenser

Ready to gobbler up the sweet treats, the purple metallic Sleestak Pez wacky wobbler comes out on top in 2008.

2009

Huckleberry Hound

Huckleberry Hound wacky wobbler is back. This time it is a metallic dark blue that has the collectors hunting. This year also marks the last time that the Wacky Wobbler reigns supreme.

2010

Green Lantern

POP!s were introduced to the world at SDCC this year. The glow in the dark Green Lantern is the most desired of the original set of figures.

2011

Mr. Incredible

The superhero theme continues, this time he is from Pixar’s The Incredibles. Mr. Incredible sported his retro blue super suit this year.

2012

Darth Maul

Star Wars makes its only appearance on our list in the shape of a holographic Darth Maul POP! figure.

2013

Dumbo

Dumbo in his circus clown make up marks the high point of list. Currently valued at over $4,000 it is almost enough to make an elephant fly.

2014

Huckleberry Hound

Back for his third appearance is Huckleberry Hound. To mark the launch of Hanna-Barbera POP! figures, Funko had a rainbow selection of Huckleberry’s available. The Pink version currently sits atop the list but a few other colors are close behind.

2015

Jason Voorhees

An unmasked Jason Voorhees slashed his way to the top of the pile in a crowded 2015 convention.

2016

Captain America

The only Dorbz to earn a place on the list is the mega 18 inch tall Captain America. Released to celebrates Cap’s 75th anniversary towers over the regular sized Dorbz in both scale and price.

2017

Batman

Starting the whole chroming craze, the Blue Chrome Batman has been replicated many times since but hasn’t yet been passed.

Which of the 2018 exclusives do you think will be added to this list? Want to help us figure it out? PPG is looking for a few more volunteers to join our team and help process sold listings. If you are interested, please reach out to us at support@hobbydb.com

Having already revealed the lineup for the Marvel epic clash, Civil War, Funko has now unveiled the full product of DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Like Civil War, the BvS line expands beyond Pops into Wobblers, Dorbz, Vinyl Idolz, and Mystery Minis.

We’ve already seen some Pops on the shelves of various retailers. The standard line includes Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Batman, Superman, Knightmare Batman and Superman Soldier. Also keep your eyes open for the metallic Batman Vs. Superman 2-pack at Toys R Us.

Dawn of Justice Pops

The Dorbz line gets five new figures – Batman, Armored Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, plus a Dorbz Ride Batmobile with Batman.

Dawn of Justice Dorbz

The Mystery Minis has a fun assortment of heroes and their alter egos, offering Superman and Clark Kent; Wonder Woman, armed Wonder Woman and Diana Prince; Batman, Knightmare Batman, Armored Batman and Bruce Wayne; plus Aquaman, Superman Soldier, and Alfred. No wonder on whether these will all be 1/12 ratios, but it’s probably safe to assume so given that other movie lines have been distributed this way.

Dawn of Justice Minis and Rides

Fans of the Wacky Wobblers bobble-heads will be able to choose from the four main characters – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. Plus a 4-pack including mini versions of the four.

Dawn of Justice Wobblers

Finally, we will be seeing Pop Pen Toppers from our four heroes, as well as Vinyl Idolz of the titular characters.

I’m glad to see the Wacky Wobbler line continue to grow. Funko started with the Wobblers, and it’s good to know they aren’t dead yet.
