It’s our mission at Pop Price Guide and our partner hobbyDB to not only be the most complete database in the collectibles universe, but also the most accurate.
We already have a diverse Price Point system that incorporates values beyond eBay, from the likes of Mercari, WhatNot, and assorted Auction Houses, for example (find all of the now 80 different Prices Sources we support here). This allows us to provide a more complete estimated value. All of which is vetted by our Squad of humans, rather than bots.
So we’re geeked up to announce our latest upgrade to PPG’s price system, one that comes requested directly from our community of collectors.
In the middle of the year, Mercari changed the process by which it charges. Instead of charging the Seller a fee, it now has a 10% Buyer’s Fee. Many sellers have adjusted their pricing to take into account the fact that they do not pay fees. And those that did not adjust, make fewer sales because their items are now 10% more expensive to buy!
As of yesterday, all prices on PPG and hobbyDB have been adjusted for the Buyer’s Fee. See an example here –
The Price Point will explain the fact that we added the Buyer’s Fee and how much it is (we bet Mercari will increase it soon).
Look for the same treatment for Auction Houses that charge Buyer’s fees soon. And if you want to add Price Points from a specific Auction House contact us!

yall need to add shipping and tax grand totals for ebay. they never used to charge tax now do and there has been plenty of listing that get posted and are lower than the normal sales due to high shipping cost and tax. for example, there are sales that happen from other countries like Australia and the uk and shipping is usually 20 to 30 bucks, that 100 percent effects the sale price and should be factored in, especially if it’s an offer or buy now.
That is true, tax is almost 10% and shipping is another $10+ for higher end pops, people on facebook literally law ball you because the PPG “average” doesn’t reflect those two costs
If we started to add shipping costs and somebody in Argentina is willing to pay $40 shipping as they cannot get the product locally that would distort the value of the item. Shipping and tax are ancillary costs that you know about and that are based on your location (Zillow does not add your realtor costs, lawyer fees or real estate taxes for that reason). And to be fair we would otherwise also have to add the costs of fuel and other costs associated with car ownership if somebody drives to Target to buy a Pop. And even if we did add sales tax it wouldn’t work – if you live in Arab, Georgia the local sales tax is 16% while there are places like Alaska where sales tax is under 2%.
apples to oranges. if something is valued at 120. someone ain’t buying that from someone who has a 30 dollar shipping fee on there. then for the buyer they just payed 150. so if someone is going to put something on there for 90 but with a 30 dollar shipping cost then it’s not an overpay. plus one low sales taints ppgs value when it only sold for that low bc of the high shipping cost
Agreed 🙂
I don’t consider shipping in the total value. Considering the alternative would be I had to buy a plane ticket or drive there shipping is doing me a favor. I also don’t consider taxes because some states happening in some states don’t.
still affects the price, especially when it’s being factored in for value. in other words, if you have 5 sales in a 2 week span. 4 of them are say around 120 to 130 then an 80 dollar sale shows up but shipping was 30 bucks with tax, that’s closer to the price of 120 130, it’s selling for. PPGs value system will then drop the value to say 90 to 95 all bc of that one sale when actually the only reason it sold for that low was bc of the 30 dollar shipping. so yea it does need to be factored in.
Shipping should absolutely be included in the total value of a sale. You see it all the time on eBay and others, someone low balling a price and making up the difference on the shipping charge! This is not a fair representation of an items true value and is causing a downward spiral in pricing. The method PPG uses to calculate value is awful and a detriment to the hobby and collectors. Anything they profess to be improving won’t matter, till this flawed system is fixed.
