In the past, we’ve had an area to see the top 10 valued items by area, or overall. We let that go due to the heavy load it was putting on our servers, and while we are hoping to have an updated version at some point, in the interim I have a fun article to share put together by our own PPGER, dilemma. Hope you enjoy!
Editor note: this was written last week, so numbers might be slightly different than what is currently reporting
Pops don’t come cheap. At least, not all of them. Whether a Pop is a chase, has a limited run, got vaulted, or was cancelled, some figures are just worth more. Ranging from DC to Star Wars, here’s the top 10 most valuable Pops out there right now.
10. The Penguin (Metallic) $1,040.00
The Penguin is the first of several DC characters featured on this list. One of Batman’s classic nemeses, this villain who enjoys the finer things in life would be happy to know he’s valued so highly among collectors, with metallic chase figure valued at $1,040. The Penguin might get a chilly reception from Batman, but any collector lucky enough to grab him will know how lucky they are. His non-chase version has an estimated value of $160.
9. The Riddler (Metallic) $1,050.00
Riddle me this, Funkoaddicts. Who’s the shiniest, most puzzling member of Gotham’s most wanted? This metallic chase variation of The Riddler, of course! Barely beating out The Penguin, this Pop is currently valued at $1,050, only ten dollars more than the other member of DC’s most wanted. This Pop features the Riddler in his green and purple outfit, gray bowler hat, and a gold cane.
8. Chewbacca (Flocked) $1,190.00
Star Wars and Pops go together like Peanut Butter and Jelly, only with more space, vinyl, and springs (All of the Star Wars Pop figures are bobble-heads). The first exclusive on the list, this flocked Chewbacca figure is a variation on Funko’s Chewbacca #06, and was released at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. Flocked figures have a very thin layer of material covering the vinyl, giving it a fuzzy texture. Fitting, since Chewie always was a bit of a fuzzball.
It had a limited run of only 480 pieces, which in addition to being flocked, ensures him a place on this list. He’s valued at $1,190.00 on PPG, which could go a long way towards paying Jabba back those credits you borrowed.
The Shadow Trooper Pop is another 2011 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive. The Shadow Troopers were specially trained in areas of stealth and often took on classified missions under Agent Blackhole, the Director of Imperial Intelligence. The figure had the same release numbers as the Chewbacca released at the same convention, with 480 figures made, however, the uniqueness of the Shadow Troopers may have helped these figures’ value increase to $1,290.
6. The Notorious B.I.G. (Metallic) $1,410.00
The Pop line doesn’t limit itself to fictional characters. Pop! Rocks is a series released by Funko that depicts famous singers and other musicians. The Notorious B.I.G. has two figures in the series, a white-suited figure, and a silver-suited, metallic variation released at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. With a release run of only 240, this metallic exclusive has an estimated value of $1,410.
5. Green Lantern (Glow in the Dark) $1,460.00
In brightest day, in darkest night, this glow-in-the-dark figure will light up any night. This was another San Diego Comic-Con exclusive, with only 240 figures released at the 2010 convention. This figure has an impressive five other variants, including two bobble-heads and a New 52 stylized outfit. Completing the whole set comes at a high price, however, as this figure costs a whopping $1,460.
4. Planet Arlia Vegeta $1,490.00
Vegeta might always be fighting with Goku in the Dragon Ball universe, but there is clearly only one winner in the Pop world. This pop shows Vegeta’s original color scheme when he first appeared in the anime, with reddish-brown hair and green armor, as Vegeta’s character had yet to be seen in color in the manga the series was based off. This exclusive was released at the 2014 New York Comic-Con, as well as at Toy Tokyo, a toy shop in New York City.
3. Holographic Darth Maul $1510.00
For many, this is the Holy Grail of Pops. Darth Maul is, for many Star Wars fans, one of the only new characters from the prequels worth mentioning, and stolen away before his time. While technically not a variant, this figure resembles the Pop Darth Maul #09 figure, other than the fact that it is holographic-colored, glow-in-the-dark, and the coolest thing ever. The 2012 San Diego Comic Con exclusive had a limited run of 480 figures, and is priced at $1510.00.
2/1 Dumbo (Gold) $1,960.00 and Dumbo (Clown) $2,070.00
The final two items on this list are variants of a simple Dumbo figure which is currently selling for less than $10. The gold variant is great looking, but the clown variant wins the list, valued at $2,070.00. The clown variant is based on one of the saddest scenes in the film, where the clowns in the circus dress and paint poor Dumbo before pushing him off a tall structure into a vat of pudding. The variants were both released as exclusives at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con with a limited run of only 48 figures made of each.
Disclaimer- for the sake of variety on this list, Freddy Funko figures have not been included, as they would have taken up eight of the ten spots. For those not familiar with the Freddy Funko figures – Freddy is Funko’s official mascot, and every year at San Diego Comic Con, Funko will release a handful of Freddy Pops outfitted and painted as characters from other lines (Batman, He-Man, Boba Fett, just as examples). These rarely have an edition run of more than 500, and some as low as having only 12 pieces produced.
So there’s our top ten most valuable. What Pops do you have that are either very valuable, or you’re just very proud of? Share in the comments!
