In this Collector Showcase we meet Kansas Pop collector Tim Hull. He has acquired quite a few Pops since he first got started only a few Christmases ago! Along with his huge assemblage of Pops he also collects Action Figures, Legos and Hot Wheels. One of his newest growing acquisitions are the Mr & Mrs. Potato Heads,he has 12 different types at the moment. In his free time Tim watches films, television series and plays video games. He’s a regular at his local Starbucks and attends 3-4 Conventions a year. One year at Dragon Con he shared an elevator with Michael Dorn best known for playing the Klingon Worf in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Witchblade actress Yancy Butler. At the same Convention he found himself in the Men’s restroom standing next to Daniel Cudmore a.k.a. Colossus from X Men:The Last Stand and X Men:Days of Future Past which would probably be one of the most awkward scenarios to be tempted to engage a celebrity in conversation. In his Convention adventures he has met several actors and actresses from various fan favorite TV franchises including Star Trek, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Battlestar Galactica. A few of his Photo Op pics are included at the end of his collection photos.
1. How long have you been collecting Funko Products?
I first started collecting Pop!s in December of 2014.
2. What was your first Funko item?
The addiction began simply enough, with Elsa and Anna from Frozen and Deadpool all purchased while out Christmas shopping.
3. How many Funko collectibles do you own?
I own somewhere around 740 Pop!s including a few customs. A buddy even made a Superhero Pop! of me. 🙂 I also have a few Dorbz and Hikari.
4. Do you have a favorite line OR a line you would like to see?
The DC and Marvel lines are my favorite, although I am really in love with the Pac-Man line.I’m really hoping for more X Men Pop!s soon. I’m still waiting on Scooby Doo Pop!s as well. I know the Dorbz are due out this year so I am hoping the Pop!s aren’t too far behind! I’d also really like to see Funko do Gilligan’s Island.
5. What are your favorite Top 5 “Must Own” items in your collection?
Ohh,that’s a tough one. I guess my Metallic Boo Berry and Count Chocula. I still need to acquire Frankenberry at some point. And then Dr. Doom,Ghost Rider and Metallic Green Goblin(I do love the Metallic Pop!s). Honorable Mention should go to the Haunted Mansion set as well.
6. What is your best deal/favorite find story?
I got Cruella Deville through a Mystery Sale. That was pretty exciting!
7. What line are you most excited about that is yet to be released?
Golden Girls! And the Impopster line!
8. Do you complete sets with every variant or are you happy just to own certain Pops in a line?
Depends on the line but I usually do try to get all the variants. I always feel like if I don’t get them now I’ll regret it later.
9. Favorite Social Networking group for News,Buying,Trading or Selling?
We have a local group called Wichita Funkonatics. A couple of the members are very informative, and the small amount of members(around 75)keeps things on a personal level.
10. Do you collect any other types of collectibles?
Not nearly in the same fashion as I do the Pop!s but I do collect action figures(Marvel,DC and Star Wars),PEZ dispensers and Hot Wheels.
11. If you could design a line OR add variants to an existing line what would you create?
I’d like to see a Lantern Corps line. And maybe a line of rainbow Dalek’s. And again, more X Men!
12. Any advice for new collectors OR something you wish you knew when you started collecting? Words of Wisdom?
Only collect what you love. If they go up in value great! But don’t make that your main focus. I’ve had so many bad interactions with people who only cared about money. For me this is a hobby and suppose to be for fun. So enjoy the hunt and have fun! 🙂
What made you a Funko fan? We’d love to hear from you, share your story and give you a chance to show off your collection! I am jealous in 8,000 ways
Awesome collection! Thanks for sharing with us! ❤️
Nice to see another Kansas! I’m in Overland Park.
Sorry this is unrelated to this specific article, but I have noticed something with the site that is bugging me. I will say you have an amazing collection though and am beyond jealous!
This is for the site’s mods though: I’ve noticed that any article, that anyone has anything even slightly negative to say against Funko, the mods go and close the comments on that article.
I get you’re just trying to prevent an onslaught of negative comments, but isn’t that really kind of a Communistic approach?
Great example is the article about the Quidd app’s release. I just checked back there to add my Quidd user name, but I wasn’t able to because a couple people didn’t have great things to say about it’s release.
I totally get this is essentially a Funko site, but not everyone is going to love everything that Funko does and they should have the freedom to voice the opinions or concerns.
Anyway, that seems pretty sad that we can’t say what we really feel about different releases, but all sites have their own rules they choose to abide with.
To add what I wanted on there: If anyone is using the Quidd app, I’m SMSimon on there and would love to see some of the PPG Community added to my Friends List.
Unfortunately there are a lot of people that can’t just scroll past things they don’t care for and they choose to verbally trash whatever it is. I typically try to use Thumper’s Mother’s motto from Bambi online “If you can’t say somethin’ nice, don’t say nothin’ at all” but the anonymity of the web makes keyboard warriors out of people that probably would keep it to themselves in their everyday lives. We would prefer to have an open exchange of thoughts & ideas but the really negative folks tend to ruin that freedom in a lot of forum’s everywhere online. As far as I know the comments weren’t disabled because of the negativity, they might turn themselves off after a period of inactivity. I originally wrote the Quidd article thinking some collectors would be interested and I’m sure a few were but the negative responses tend to outweigh the rest. I am using the App to collect the digital MyMoji’s so I’ll add you to my friend list.
Actually I think your article had a lot more impact that you thought. I’ve ran into a few PPG users on Quidd.
I also want to say thanks for doing that article because it’s what led me to the app. Quidd definitely has some kinks to work out and it’s not going to be for everyone, but it has been cool to meet a bunch of Funko collectors. I however could never see myself spending actual money on In App Purchases, but it’s a fun timekiller.
Comments automatically close two weeks after a post is published. Nothing to do with negative comments!
Ohhh that makes total sense then and sorry guys for getting off topic. I must have randomly chosen the articles that happened to have negative comments.
I’m still pretty new to the site and learning the ins & outs of PPG.
Sorry for the unneeded sidetracking and drama! Love the site and a big reason I’ve really gotten into collecting.
In 18 months of running this site, I don’t think any of the admins have deleted comments or closed threads, and definitely not because of negativity towards Funko. While some sites will drop to their knees and suck up to Funko any chance they can, we will be the first to call Funko out on bullshit. Like BBY said, comments close after 14 days. That’s the only time comments will be cut off.
Back on subject, great article, great collection, and great photo op pics. 🙂
Jealous you met Elvira! Still hoping for a Pop of her at some point too
