Have you ever wondered what it would be like to physically roam and shop the aisles of hobbyDB? We’re not talking about a virtual shopping cart, rather an actual cart with a rickety wheel and all.

With the hobbyDB Retail Network, we’re looking to bring all the tools, features and protections of hobbyDB to your favorite local specialty shops and collectible stores.

And do so all in the palm of your hand.

We’re always looking to revolutionize the collecting experience and our new venture aims to unify retail shops with the hobbyDB database and marketplace.

How it Works

The process is simple. The Store lists items for sale on hobbyDB and affixes their own personal barcode (something we recently introduced for all Members).

From there, the Seller’s online store is then listed in the hobbyDB Retail Network section of the hobbyDB App.

The buyer now has three options to purchase the item using the hobbyDB App –

• Via hobbyDB
• Via the Seller’s Online Store
• In person

Which is all now connected via the hobbyDB App.

The only decision left is to choose between having your newly-purchased item shipped to you or picked up in person.

What is in it for you?

Who doesn’t love supporting local retailers or finding that special shop while on the road?

With the hobbyDB Retail Network, you can check all of the newly stocked items of your favorite Store from home, buy the one that you cannot live without, and then pick it up when convenient (then perhaps check out a few other items in person while there)!

You can do the same when you are planning your next trip. From Atlanta to Zephyrhills, we are planning on constantly adding new stores – with international stores arriving in 2024.

And all without having to pay postage and wait for days!

Soon you can also bring in items to consign to your Store (if you are like us and too busy documenting every collectible ever made).

And, of course, the best part is that, because you’re using the hobbyDB App, your purchase is automatically transferred to your personal hobbyDB collection.

The USPS has issued a temporary peak season rate hike, which will continue through Jan. 22 and affect Priority Mail Express, Priority Mail, First Class Package Service, Parcel Select and USPS Retail Ground.

That’s in addition to another potential rate hike on the horizon in January to help combat inflation.

Edit a Shipping Group

So what does that mean for you, the Pop Price Guide Marketplace seller?

With our tools, it’s easy to bulk update shipping on your sales, rather than update each sale individually.

To create or edit a Shipping Group, access the Selling menu, located in the top right on every PPG page, and click “Dashboard.”

Locate the “Shipping Groups and Zone Caps” field and click “Groups.”

From here you can update prices, as well as rename groups, change, add or remove zones, and switch from flat rates to buyer requests for designated Shipping Groups.

Easily Bulk Update Shipping Prices

Once again, open the Selling menu, but this time select “Items for Sale.”

Use the search filters to choose the items that you would like to apply the updated shipping costs for. There’s also a filter option to search no shipping groups.

Once highlighted, click Batch Actions and select “Change Shipping Groups.” Choose your group and make sure to hit save.

That particular item in the Marketplace has been calling out to you. But you’re not quite ready to add it to your collection, yet.

Same goes for that other item and that other one before that one. So how do you keep tabs on all the great items that you’re keeping an eye on?

Thanks to our new feature that allows you to “fave” your favorite items in the Marketplace, that is.

Loving your favorite items is what collecting is all about, right? On Pop Price Guide, we’ve given you the ability to “fave” items such as your favorite Subjects and fellow Members, as well as your preferred PPG Marketplace Sellers.

Now we’re introducing the ability to “fave” your favorite items in the Marketplace. It’s really easy to do. Simply click the red Heart located on Marketplace and Database items searches.

With your Wish Lists, you’ll get notified anytime your favorite items go on sale in the PPG Marketplace. Watch Lists, however, offer you the opportunity to track a specific item – from a specific seller – allowing you to purchase it when you deem the time is right.

In the near future, you’ll find the Fave option on the sale item itself, as well as in other people’s collections.

So what does “faving” your most coveted items accomplish? By clicking that fave, you’ll add the item among your “favorites.”  From there you can easily search for them in the Marketplace utilizing the filter “My Fave items.”

Our service is an ideal tool if you find yourself in a position where you’d like to sell your entire collection/lots/lists in one transaction. Here’s a helpful guide to get you started.

Perhaps you need to scale back, have lost interest or could use a few extra bucks in your pocket. It’s also a convenient way to handle a collection from a loved one who has passed away.

The process is simple. Make sure your collection on PPG is completely up-to-date. Then tell us when you’re ready to sell and we’ll go ahead and present your collection to a number of selected (and trusted) Collection Buyers. Once we have their sealed bids, we’ll leave it up to you to decide which offer best suits your needs.

The best part is that if you sell a collection via the PPG Marketplace, we can quickly transition it to the Buyer’s Pop Price Guide collection and Showcase. This means our Collection Buyers are able to save time and money, thus making you better offers in the end.

After careful consideration and consulting with the community, we came to the conclusion that the Token System was not ideal for our members. So we decided to find another solution for our community.

Effective today, we’re removing the Token system altogether and transitioning to a Final Value Fee, officially known as the PayPal Partner Fee.

How it will work

How does this sound? You can now list all of your sale items for free!

When you make a sale, you will then only pay the Pop Price Guide / hobbyDB Partner Fee of 5 percent on the total value of the transaction. The Partner Fee automatically comes out of the Checkout, so we will never send you a bill.

How does it compare?

At 5 percent, that’s significantly more cost effective than what other sites charge.  Amazon and eBay’s effective take rate is above 15% (that is their Final Value fee combined with other fees charged), Mercari is at 10% and if you can get approval to sell on WhatNot, they charge 8%. 

When it comes to Facebook, although there are no fees, we have all been burned when it comes to deals gone bad and it always seems to be a nightmare when managing what has and hasn’t sold. The good news is that you can actually use the PPG inventory management system to post on Facebook, giving you access to their buyers, while being able to maintain your inventory all in one place.

In fact, when you post your listings on Facebook, our integration creates an ad for your items that links directly back to your items for sale. You can post in as many FB Groups as you’d like, and if the item has already sold out, your customers will be able to see what else you have available (so you won’t have to answer those pesky “Is this still available” questions anymore).
