The Beginnings Of The (Beta) Marketplace
The fact that “A new marketplace” won the poll was no surprise and made perfect sense to us – it’s something we’d tried before, but we ran into a number of issues, including security concerns, which forced us to retire it. So this go around we figured we needed help and found the team at hobbyDB – a group of similarly-minded collectors with a lot of experience selling online and building a secure, fully-functioning online marketplace.
As a result, you’ll very shortly see the first super-tentative test in a series of steps which are intended to lead us up to our very own brand new PPG marketplace! Starting today, you’ll see a new PPG “For Sale” widget popping up on some item pages. It’ll look like this;
Over time, as we get more storefronts onboard, you’ll see the widget popping up on more and more pages. If you are interested in selling on PPG, you can leave us a comment, reach out through social media or email us directly at support@hobbydb.com.
Timeline for next steps
As above, this is a first step towards the full marketplace. We’re working as fast as we can on this with Alex, Andrew, Christian, Dayne and the other good people over at hobbyDB to bring in features we hope you’ll love. The next stages in the process will be:
– The ability to see and search all of the items for sale in one place. This should be in place in the next two weeks.
– A shopping cart which lets you buy more than one item at a time. This should arrive the week after.
– The ability for PPGers to list their items for sale directly from PPG! This functionality should start to be available the week after that.
It’s a work in progress and will take time, so we need as much feedback as we can get! Let us know what you like, what you don’t and what you’d like to see more of. Leave a comment or email us at support@hobbydb.com
Freaking Awesome!!!!!!!
I’m glad you’re as excited as we are! 🙂
Sweet! Can’t wait! Great job continuing to try and please the masses. Keep it up!
We do what we can! 🙂
Wooohooo. Thank you for all the hard work you put into making PPG better for us. I couldn’t see me collecting pops without it.
Thank you! That kind of support makes it all worth it for us!
I’d be interested in trying to sell through the marketplace. Would be happy to provide feedback during the process as well.
Hi! Send us an email at support@hobbydb.com and we’d love to talk about it!
Definitely keen to sell on PPG! Hell yeah
Great! Are you interested in setting up a storefront? Or selling a few things here and there? If it’s the latter, we’re a couple of weeks out from that, but if you’re interested in a storefront we can hook you up right away! Send us an email at support@hobbydb.com when you get a chance!
Yes thanks so much for everything you do!
Thank you! We couldn’t do it without the continued support of our members.
How about a currency changer for us UK/EU users?
It’s not in the immediate plans but has definitely been talked about. 🙂
I will be interested in selling! I live in a small town so I get extras of all the exclusives
That’s great, I’m sure this will help a lot of people out!
This is awesome! Will definitely try it out
Very interested in selling on here!
Will it still be possible to trade? I’m curious because I’m mostly looking to trade mystery minis, etc. like before. Thanks for everything btw, really appreciate the site.
The scammers will find a way to rip people off. I’m sticking with ebay…at least they have protections in place
And are you certain we don’t? Everything goes through PayPal, which is just one layer of protection, not to mention what hobbyDB does for their members.
Scammers will always find a way to scam. Ripping people off probably predates prostitution as the oldest “profession”.
Ebay isn’t some safe haven. Paypal isn’t very protective and shouldn’t be relied on.
Due diligence is your best defense. If using something like Craigslist, always meet in person. If buying online, check ratings by previous buyers.
In a way, you are safer in a smaller community like PPG than on eBay. The community gets to know each other, red flags are often noticed faster, newcomers get extra notice until they prove themselves and fit in.
You are never 100% safe. Something can go wrong with even the most reputable trader, but if you are careful, you should end up happy.
I know I’ll view PPG as just as safe as eBay.
So excited for this! Lets hope it doesnt go badly like last time. I have high hopes and i plan to buy/sell on here!!
I have every confidence it’s going to be glorious! hobbyDB has done some great work with their marketplace and I’m thrilled to be integrating into it.
I hope it works out! 🙂
With the new marketplace feature, will SSL be incorporated into the site? Would be nice to have the extra security.
Are you asking if TLS will be incorporated into all aspects of the site (i.e. managing our collections) or just into the marketplace part?
I don’t know about the all aspects part.
For the marketplace part, the HobbyDB marketplace is secured, so we can assume the PPG integration into it will be also.
From the new kid on the block i think its a Fantastic thing your doing. PPG to me is an invaluable guide for them. Kinda like buying a car without a Kelly Bluebook, only better.
Thank you! This kind of praise is the best we can ask for!
Definitely interested in setting up a store front! I’ll email for more details but thanks for getting this going again!
Awesome! Can’t wait until this is up and running.
This is great news! I’m happy to hear it! Without you there might not be a me! I’ll email you soon.
Hi! Im reallly interested on selling pops! Please let me know because im excited!!!
I am very excited! Will there be a function to sell multiple Pop! as a lot?
HobbyDB has a combined shipping setup that I think is superior to eBay’s cart system.
I don’t know if you can force list multiple items as a lot, but you can at least make it easy for someone to purchase a lot of your Pops to save on shipping.
Will the PPG selling fees be the same as HobbyDB? (10%, with 3% of that going to the required use of Paypal)
Will regular users be able to sell on the Marketplace eventually? I am fine providing whatever info to prove identify etc. However could be really useful.
Can anyone sign up to sell or only stores?
I am excited for the marketplace as well! As a separate, but related suggestion, are there any plans to have advanced search options? Like only showing items not in our collection so we can find the ones we want to purchase in the marketplace. This would be amazing for us Batman collectors.
Yes, we do have plans for additional search options, reporting, grouping, etc.
